Inspiring Style Edit.

I wrote the a few short weeks ago and thought I would share with you here. Thank you for all the comments and discussion I have had so far from people. I am pleased you are enjoying my analyses.

With so many journalists and people on social media taking a keen interest in Lady Victoria Starmer's personal style I have put together my own analysis so you too can achieve the Lady Starmer look everyone is enjoying! Lady Starmer is effortlessly elegant in kitten heels and beautifully soft tailored dresses which bring feminine flair and plenty of colour.

As 1st Lady of our country she will undoubtably have thought about how her outfits will communicate her personality and role to the world. For some, the huge interest in our 1st Ladies wardrobe will come with a twist of misogyny as she has been spoken about far more and very publicly than the Prime Minister himself when it comes to how these two dress. Up to this point most would say she has got it just right. I myself feel that her strong advocation for Labour and her new role is communicated well through wearing red even if it has just been in the details with tailored pieces and jackets with a softer side to create her style. Her look is very neat and elegant. A fun green dress was seen at Sandown Racecourse where she chose to wear a floral Me+Em dress for a more casual look. Wearing these high street items makes her accessible to the public in some ways and is clever because I imagine many conservative voters will have some Me+Em pieces in their wardrobes. I wonder if there's an element of ...We're all the same really?? Or at least can we work towards that? that is being communicated here? Maybe, maybe not.

I myself have been struck however at how unkind many have been to the Deputy Prime Minister Angela Raynor for wearing the same Me+Em brand. All that she has and is currently achieving for women has been spoken about much less. Whether I am a Labour voter or not I do respect and support a female Deputy Prime Minister. Have the comments she has faced been because she has spoken openly about her upbringing and childhood, therefore the Me+Em suit was not what people expected or is it that jealousy has played its part here, or even the element of surprise?

Would we have liked our 2 top women to have chosen different brands because we struggle to see 2 women in power from different backgrounds wearing the same brand? The way we view some Brands does seem to pigeon hole people sometimes, especially women. As a Stylist I have asked myself many questions about this having read so much which I have found quite shocking and I have no conclusion for you. However I do find it very interesting that 2 women, both who have been in the press recently, have been spoken about so differently by journalists and the public on social media for wearing the same, very much loved high end high street brand, Me+Em.

From my Stylist point of view I began looking at the colours being worn, less the brand and this allows us to consult the psychology of colour.

The red dress was a bold (some may say obvious) choice for Lady Starmer for her formal entrance to No. 10 Downing St. Red is dominant and evokes power and confidence. Red also evokes passion, possibly signifying that she is passionate about her new role. It is also Labour's colour of course.

Green worn on the same day by Angela Raynor, in my opinion was ideal. Green evokes new beginnings, growth, nurture and of course balance. These are all things that make complete sense for Angela Raynor to feel and want to evoke when she was made Deputy Prime Minister. To be allocated the role and given the opportunity to make new changes and in still balance in our country is a meaningful part of what she has spoken about in interviews and seems to be important to her, so green was the right colour to communicate these intentions.

Importantly this does all communicate to us is that clothes speak volumes, before we even speak. Clothes don't just sit on our backs, to keep us warm or make us look presentable. They communicate to the world our personality, our confidence levels, our hopes, dreams, and intentions. Clothes can help people to secure respect and personal growth. Clothes are more than clothes, your clothes are your voice before you speak. Dress a confident posture well in the right clothes to command attention when you walk into a room.

I wish both Lady Victoria Starmer and Angela Raynor well in their style choices. My advice to them would be to ensure you understand your body shape so clothes fit well and photographs are flattering as many will be taken and also to use colour psychology to evoke intentions and assist with their interactions.
